Option 1: AROUND ICELAND (8 days)

AROUND ICELAND (8 DAYS)

Day 1   Arrival in Iceland. Pick up of your car upon arrival at the airport.

Day 2   Go west – explore the saga valley Borgarfjörður with its waterfalls, hot springs and historic sites. Spend 1 night in the Borgarfjörður area.

Day 3   Up to the north: Visit Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland, and Goðafoss, the waterfall of the gods. Explore the sights of Lake Mývatn. Overnight in North Iceland .

Day 4   Drive on Tjörnes peninsula and visit Europe’s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss (mid June to August). Proceed further via the dessert road to the east. Overnight in East Iceland.

Day 5   Drive along the scenic fjords of East Iceland. Overnight near Höfn.

Day 6   Enjoy Vatnajökull glacier, including a glacial lagoon and Skaftafell National Park. Drive along the south coast and witness many natural wonders such a black lava beaches, waterfalls and glaciers. Overnight ion the south coast.

Day 7   Visit Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot springs and Þingvellir National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight in Reykjavík.

Day 8   Depart for home. Drop off of your rental car at the airport 2 hourse before your flight.

Option 4: HIGHLAND adventure (11 days)

HIGHLAND ADVENTURE (11 DAYS)

Day 1 . Arrival

Pick up of your rental car upon arrival at the Keflavik airport
Accommodation in Reykjavík

Day 2.  The South.

Ca. 160 km travelled.
Explore Iceland’s famous circle of wonders “The Golden Circle”,
i.e. Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area.
Your accommodation for the first night will be in the area.
Day 3.  Kjölur.
Ca. 160 km travelled.
Today you will cross the highland in the north direction on the route Kjölur.
You will drive a plateau between two large glaciers, Langjökull and Hofsjökull.
Stop by the geothermal area Hveravellir.
The accommodation will be in Skagaförður area.Days 4 and 5. The North.
Ca. 240 km travelled.
Head for Lake Mývatn and explore the many wonders of the area.
On the second day, you could go on a day tour to Askja.
Drive through the vast lava terrains via Herðubreiðalindir.
A dip in the geothermal pool at the crater Víti is a treat.

Day 6. Sprengisandur.
Ca. 200 km travelled.
Drive the black sands of Sprengisandur back South,
with rough tracks as well as crossing unbridged and unpredictable rivers.
In Nýjadal, it is ideal to have a lunch break and walk in the green valley.
Accommodation for this night is simple and on the outskirts of the desert.

Days 7. and 8. Landmannalaugar
Drive to Landmannalaugar. Ideal for hiking and relaxing bath in the spring water.
Lakagígar is a 25 km row of volcanic fissure that erupted in 1783.

Days 9. Vík
The South.  Ca. 100 km travelled.
Drive to Landmannalaugar. After lunch you will drive Fjallabaksleið towards Eldgjá
to Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

Days 10. Reykjavik

Drive along the beautiful south coast to Reykjavik.  You will pass by Skogarfoss waterfall and Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
